For the unique edition 'Study for From Bad to Worse and Back', Porritt has has used brush and ink to achieve a certain economy of line, that to remove any mark would be detriment to the image. The image plays with a simple repeated facial figure, that the zip/line that runs down the centre of the paper at once separates and knits together. This paradox is the heart of the design. The work is also a study for the large carpet work 'From Bad to Worse and Back' (2017).
